Curly and doodle-type coats are the highest-maintenance coat type. The curl itself catches loose hair instead of letting it shed out, so without regular brushing, mats can form within a single week.

Care and maintenance
This is the coat type most likely to need a shorter clip if grooming visits get spaced out too far, since a badly matted curly coat often can't be brushed out safely and has to be shaved down instead. A slicker brush a few times a week at home is the single biggest thing an owner can do to keep costs down.
How often to groom
Every 4-6 weeks. Curly and doodle-type coats mat quickly if brushing lapses even a week or two.
